For the most pleasant stay at the Highland Inn, make sure to request a room at the back of the property. Since the hotel is located near an interstate, rooms facing the front are exposed to quite a bit of road noise throughout the night. A room with a view to the rear will be significantly quieter and allow for a much sounder sleep after a day of driving.

Guests coming during the chillier months should keep an eye on the room heating units. It’s always good to turn on the climate control right when you arrive, hopefully warming the room up as you unpack. And here’s a tip—pack a layer of warm sleepwear just in case the Pennsylvania winter suddenly strikes as it will find its way inside most of these old buildings.

While the hotel does offer a very basic morning coffee service, we encourage guests to hit the breakfast scene in New Cumberland. There are a couple tasty classic American diners just down the road, where the independent storefronts are turning out platefuls of pancakes, eggs, and bacon. They’ll set you up for the day better than a prepackaged muffin!

This hotel made for a great cheap home base for visiting many regional attractions. We were able to save big by staying here rather than at an overpriced hotel in Hershey, and easily made the quick thirty minute commute to the amusement park. The savings on lodging allowed for more funds to be devoted to auto tickets, chocolate tours, and memorable dinners out!

Finally, tap into the knowledge of the front desk staff, they have great local knowledge that can help you find the fastest place to downtown Harrisburg or a good local place to grab a casual dinner. Don’t hesitate to ask them for extra towels and pillows, or anything else you might need. They’re known for being super accommodating and eager to help you have a great stay.
